Peppermint is a herb and contains no caffeine. Quite often
peppermint is consumed after meals as the oils stimulate the flow of bile
to the stomach and helps relieve gas pains. Additionally, it has been reported
and written that peppermint sweetens the breath and calms the digestive system,
plus it helps heartburn, stomachache and nausea. An interesting and tingling
way to use peppermint is to place a handful of peppermint leaves in your bath
water, which will lower your body temperature - perfect for cooling fevered skin
or after working on a hot summers day. A pleasing brew with a stimulating mint
flavour to comfort and strengthen your senses. A lively tea with delicate aroma,
perfect for reviving yourself as an afternoon tea.
What is it? (Peppermint Tea)
An herb prized for its medicinal benefits and distinctive flavor,
peppermint (Mentha piperata) is a naturally occurring hybrid of
spearmint (M. spicata) and water mint (M. aquatica). Unlike other
mints, however, peppermint contains in its healing volatile oil the
powerful therapeutic ingredient menthol, as well as menthone, menthyl
acetate and some 40 other compounds. The oil is made by steam-distilling
the plant's aromatic leaves and stems, which are gathered just before its
light-purple flowers appear in the summer.
Suttons of London's Peppermint Tea is a lively/refreshing drink
delicately flavoured with peppermint. The base is a smooth brisk
tea with perfect strength and bright amber colour.
